Monday Update
Left work early yesterday and bought a bunch of flowers on the way home to cheer up Mrs A.Still off the cigs and very tired from looking after our 2 year old nephew all day they put a smile back on her face. Not garage forecourt flowers either! Well warned about that previously by the girls at work.I don't remember the last time I bought Mrs A flowers.Lots of books and other stuff all of which were far more useful and practical than flowers but books don't look so good in a vase of water I suppose.
Step A and her friend were out guising as Goths and both came back with huge bags of sweets, fruit and nuts.I used to hate those damn monkey nuts.
Halloween like Xmas,Easter etc has just become another excuse for rampant commercialism it seems. When I was a boy ( switch off now if you like) I'd never heard of trick or treat. We went guising and had to dook for apples and do some kind of party piece. These days they thrust their bag in your face and expect loads just for a one line joke.I'm not demanding stand up comedy routines or fire eating but come on kids make an effort! I remember going to America around '81 and being blown away by Toys r Us and all the costumes etc.My Mum used to paint me green, rip my shirt and send me out as the hulk.First and only time I've ever worn green!
Quick one from The Herald diary column:
WE BUMP into former detective Les Brown, author of the recently published book Glasgow Crimefighter, who tells us he overheard a chap on a bus telling his mate that his 85-year-old father is nicknamed "The Spider".
"Is that because he's still quick on his feet?" asked his mate."Naw," he replied. "He can't get out the bath."
Ok to the poker and hit the tables about 9 ish and joined Juice ,The Edge ,Rosie and the rest for some .10-.20nl.( $20 buy in) Bought into a crazy loose .50-$1nl 6 max table too and left after 1/2 hour $22 up most of which came when KK made a lovely set on the flop.
Didn't start well at the other table when I got two players all in v my KK with A8 and AQ.As soon as I saw the A on the flop I knew it was back to the bank for a top up.It was a much better table than previous nights.$7 average pot size and 44 % seeing flop.( full ring)
Now I know I'm no expert but some of the play was laughable.People don't usually buy in for $5-$10 to play a patient tight game.First chance of action and the money goes in.I probably laid down a few hands where I was ahead but in cash games there's always another hand coming and a better opportunity around the corner.Players raising preflop then making weak bets into $3-$4 pots giving odds to just about any draw.People overbetting when they do get a good hand.Actually I can understand the overbets.Someone with K4 o/s will probably call anyway.
By the time I left ( Juice followed by me just after) we were 4 handed and I'd made $74 for the night. The highlight was the Hammer hand I posted.49-1 to hit two pair and boom there it was!
Tonight is the biggest game of Rangers season so far when we play Art Media away from home.We simply must win.No excuses.Kick off is 7.45 so a night of frayed nerves awaits.
Not sure how to leave a comment on Garyc's new template ( where is my E-tard of the year award?) but wanted to say how sorry I was to hear of the passing of your friend.Stay strong my friend.
Back tomorrow.

Congrats Acorn. You've had your first SPAM comment.
First since the wavy comments started Mr Edge.
At least he read the first line of my post even if he thought it was me not Mrs A who quit the cigs!
Hope you got my email.( no spam!)
Mr Acorn,

Could I make a request and ask for the text on my link to be changed from "The Edge Talks Poker" to "Texas Calculatem and Poker Office Blog"?
Thanks,
The Edge

Is your comments page working? I left a reply to your AK question but I can only see it by clicking on "post a comment".
Thanks for the link update Mr Acorn. Let me know when you need that website you mentioned to be optimised.
At the moment my blog has trouble publishing, which is why your comment hasn't appeared. It only lets me publish every few days. ;{
