Happy Daze

Thanks to Josie for the comment on my last post. The answer is that I've been completely smoke free ( no cigs or weed) from Tues night until Fri morning for the last couple of weeks.

That certainly wasn't the case last night as I rolled a couple up and hit the virtual felt.I only scraped one third place finish from my first set of four $22's but managed a couple of wins and a second place from my next set for a decent profit.I even managed to win a few buy-ins over 80 hands of Rush poker before hitting the sack just before 3am.As ever, after a winning night there doesn't seem much to say about it!I did find the hand below quite amusing and was tempted to type "Bot gone wrong?" in the chat box as I've no idea what the big blind could have been thinking when he called here...

I didn't even get annoyed at myself for banking a win and only playing eight sng's.Running well over a tiny sample size really shouldn't matter in the same way as losing a load of buy-ins over a similar sample is just the nature of the game.I suppose as humans we're always looking for affirmation that we're doing the right thing and the hard part about poker is that playing well is never any guarantee of short-term success.

I've not heard from my date yet this weekend.A girl at work informed me that apparently there are a whole host of (unknown to me ) rules about waiting twenty minutes before replying to text messages etc.My date also sent the first text the other night after we'd met saying she had enjoyed my company. My reply saying I had a great time and telling her to give me a shout if she fancied going out again should have seen me dropped like a hot potato according to my colleague.Jeez, play it cool, show more interest blah blah!Ahh well,I'll see how it goes!

A couple of snippets from the papers made me laugh this week.Scottish Socialist Rosie Kane talking about the lying swinger and former MSP Tommy Sheridan in a Guardian interview said, "We would have been behind him, helping him become first minister, and younger socialists would have paid the price".Do me a favour love.( to use another topical quote) Even at his political peak the bold Tommy was ( thankfully) a million miles from achieving that particular ambition.

Of course The Sun are loving Sheridan's downfall and even wrote about his new cellmate at Barlinnie Prison.I always laugh when they quote a "source" or better still "an onlooker" as the quote that follows has almost certainly been written by The Sun journo to enhance the story.

Apparently Sheridan has been locked up with a serial shoplifter called Dodds and a source said "Every one was wondering if they would get locked up with Tommy. But lo and behold it was Dodds, the only one who is not at all interested in politics". Aye,because the rest of the prisoners in Bar-L ( one of Scotland's most notorious prisons) do nothing but debate the latest early day motions from the House of Commons and are always chatting about the UK's deficit reduction strategy and what Cameron really means by the "Big Society".

Righty, good luck to Andy Murray in the Aussie Open final tomorrow morning.I'd love to see him become Britains first Grand Slam winner since Fred Perry but not enough to get up at 8.30 am in the morning to watch it! It will be the first thing I check when I do get up though!

Back soon....

Notta lotta Poka

I've taken a break from the virtual felt over the last couple of nights as I believe taking regular breaks helps keep me sane in the face of the wild swings and variance which are part of the game for any sng player.( I did play and cash in a couple of $22's on Sat night)

The trip down South went well on Sunday and we enjoyed a fine roast dinner for my uncles 60th followed by a few games of pool.I was also constantly checking my mobile for the update on the Ger's score and was delighted that we came back from 1-0 down with 10 men to win 2-1.That's why we're Champions!

I spoke to Hot Chick on the phone for the first time last night and we're going to meet up for lunch later this week/early next week. The call went well apart from when she said I spoke well and I tried to repay the compliment, nearly said she sounded posh, and then botched the rescue attempt by telling her she sounded like a news reader! Ahhh no wonder I'm using dating sites with chat like that...

In other exciting news ( not read by Hot Chick I hasten to add) I'm close to buying an Ipod Nano thingy to replace my gubbed car cd player.I would have preferred a Sony Walkman cassette player but no doubt I'll be ripping, burning with listening to far more podcasts very shortly....

Hmmm, what has got on my tits this week? Well I buy The Sun everyday to read on my ten minute morning break, mainly because I like the sport, the Striker cartoon and obviously Deirdrie's photo casebook.I don't pay much attention to the rest of it and get my news from The Times,Guardian,Mail online etc.I did happen to flick through The Sun though and caught the tragic story about Eastenders actress Samantha Janus's father being found hanged in his flat.Maybe it's just me but why the hell did The Sun not just use a standard publicity shot of her for the story instead of a pic of an obviously distraught and upset Ms Janus entering her fathers flat to clear out his belongings.Disgraceful.

Far more trivial but also annoying me this week are the police dog handlers on those "Cops with Camera's" type shows who give the dog some work to do and then say they have to give Fido a break in case the dog suffers from "nose fatigue".I'll need to bear that in mind when taking Nacho out.Nose fatique eh.Do I smell shite? Yes I do!

Ok,thanks for reading.Good luck to Arsenal in the 2nd leg of their Champions league game v celtc. If they beat Everton 6-1 at home recently surely 9 or 10-0 isn't too much to ask...

Burns can rest easy....

This week I shall mostly be making sure I get to bed at a decent hour. I only got 5 hours last Thursday night and that left me in a really dark mood on Friday evening .Picking Step A up and giving her a lift to her Dads cheered me up a little, but I was in no mood to face the world. I even saw someone I knew really well whilst food shopping after work and walked the other way to avoid having to make conversation.

The dark mood passed after I caught up on lost sleep with a long lie on Saturday morning and watching Rangers go back to the top of the league with a 3-1 win certainly put a spring back in my step.

I had a vague idea the San Jose Salmon and Mrs Salmon ( close friends who emigrated years ago) were back in the UK and a quick call after the game soon organised a fine session at mutual friends on Saturday night. The S-man was there too and I’m pleased to say that I definitely take last place in the "who has become the fattest, baldiest bassa over the years" competition!! I’m sure Step A only calls me “The Monk” due to my wise worldly ways and liking for meditation….

It was great to catch up properly and we’ve already organised a PS3 night for tomorrow and a wee home poker game for this weekend. They go back to the States next week and I hope it’s not too long before they visit again.

I would have been in Newcastle for the RTR forum weekend if I’d been able to get today off work and I was glad I wasn’t asleep and was playing my last turbo of the evening when Dudley and Bully rang my moby just after 3am on Saturday night.Top geezers and congrats to the RTR team on cashing in the team poker event.

To the poker and my next post will have some pretty exciting news for bloggers/readers about the revival of the Brit Blogger game and the chance to win WSOP seats.Watch this space!

Last night I watched a few more training videos. One handy wee tip I picked up was to avoid looking at the cashier when grinding turbos. It’s human nature to be results orientated and despite all my witterings about right decisions and the long term,I’m just as bad as the next player when it comes to checking exactly how much I have in my account after each game ends.Party software makes it easy to hide the cashier.

Inspired by the training vids and by The Kid’s comment on a recent post asking why I didn’t play more tables,I fired up eight $22’s on Party and found the action just a little too quick for my liking.Cascading six tables seemed to work quite well ( though I did fold Aces preflop by mistake) and I was happy to finish up about 10 buy-ins over 22 games.

Reading the paper today, I see that Melinda Messenger has been voted/thrown off some primetime tv dancing show. She was "The Sun's" page 3 ( topless girl on Page 3 of the paper every day for non UK readers) girl for the millenium and readers were invited to send in a poem in her honour, with the lucky winner getting to meet her.

My effort ( below) was never printed for some reason....

There once was a girl called Mel,

Whose tits were incredibly swell

Her face 'aint a worry,I'd get into her furry...

And probably her ringpiece aswell

Here was my ode to a girl at work who left to have a baby she hadn't planned....

There once was a lady called Jo

Who never expected a kid

She went off on her hols,

Her man emptied his balls...

And now the bump canny be hid....

Spotted this on Pocket Fives...NSFW!

Ok,thanks for reading.Back soon..
