Speedy Beats

I was back at Ibrox today for the early start to the football season in Scotland and although I'm usually late everywhere I go,I made it in time to see our world record 54th League Championship flag being raised by the chairman before the game.We ended up drawing 1-1with Hearts and on the balance of play it was probably a fair result.

I've watched quite a few movies recently( True Grit,Paul,Kings Speech,Clerks,Fargo,127 Hours,Hangover 2) and last night I fired up a couple of poker tables and watched Unknown as I played. It's Liam Neesons latest outing and although the plot line is a bit far fetched I ended up only playing two sng's during the film.As per usual my first big hand ended up as a bad beat after my QQ fell to JJ.The Jack came on the flop though and my AK lost to 1010 in the other game.I did play a few micro stakes heads up hyper turbos much later on and although they are a bit of a luckfest they are quite good fun as they only seem to last 5-10 mins max.

Something Stars have done in their latest update is to speed up the time it takes for the cards to be dealt both to the players and on the board. So far I'm loving this improvement because my psychic abilities mean I have an uncanny knack of correctly predicting my opponents two outer on the river. The faster speed means the beats don't seem to hurt quite as much.

Before I settle down for tonight's movies/poker/Black Ops I need to nip out and buy a bandage for Nacho's paw after he badly cut the side of it last night.Thankfully it stopped bleeding and didn't need a vet visit but it's a nasty one.He was limping last night when I let him out late on although he seemed to forget about any pain when he was out earlier chasing pigeons!

Is he as daft as the dog in the clip below? Probably!

This weeks plan is to go to the Gers Champions League qualifier on Tues, catch up with Step A on Wed evening and head over to my parents place on Thursday after work to see them and my wee nephew.

I'm also dipping my toes back into the online dating thing and trying to keep a thick skin about it all. It's such an ego boosting/soul destroying way of getting in touch with women.Ideally I'd still like kids of my own at some point, but I'm going to be 39 in a few weeks and if that's not going to happen then apart from the obvious ( and there's quite a few women on a free dating site available for that!) I'm really not in any rush to get into a relationship.Maybe I'm too selfish and set in my ways for relationship stuff anyway.Time and some more fun dates will tell I suppose!

Just switched on the tv to see the breaking news about Amy Winehouse dying. With her drink/drug problems it shouldn't be too much of a surprise but I still feel quite shocked. Her voice was incredible and her "Back to Black" album is still one of my favourites and helped me get through my break up with the Ex Mrs Acorn a few years ago.RIP Amy.

Waiting for the Man

I was waiting for the man last night before heading out for a fine pub dinner.I popped into my Mums later and helped give her poker account a wee boost by winning a couple of $6 and $16 turbs later before heading up the road.I did have fun at one $16table the other night when some poor fishy insulted me in the chat box because I'd stolen his big blind several times in a row on the bubble.( he should trying playing a Raisetheriver league game with Amatay on his right!).

The top 4 pay in $16 ,18 player turbs and the stack sizes were ideal for stealing so it was nothing personal.( obv) It was folded to me again in the small blind and I happily shoved my A9 only for the daft fish in the big blind to snap call with J7 despite the button player having about 100 chips left.My A9 held and I enjoyed a wee " ooops lol" at fishboys expense in the chat.Ahh the fun n games...

Speaking of which, I'm just back from the local Tesco where I managed to get involved in an argument with a stupid ned/chav bitch who was giving abuse to the checkout girl simply for asking to see some ID as the Ned Bitch was buying vodka.Pointing her finger in the girls face and shouting about how she should be "fuckin' sacked" after the checkout girl tried to lighten the mood by saying she was new and would probably get fired was bang out of order as was the reaction of the shop manager who apologised to Ned girl for the ID request.

Advising the checkout girl that Ned Bitch had probably never done a days hard work in her life and should learn some manners prompted Ned Bitch to start on me which is never a good idea when I'm tired, hungry and on my way home from another week dealing with complaints! As I left after giving as good as got I had other shoppers congratulating me on my stance and offering themselves as witnesses if I wanted to report Ned Bitch for threatening behaviour.I've heard worse in the Stars chat box...

Not much planned for the weekend. The s-man is coming over tonight and I'll be at Ibrox tomorrow to watch Rangers unfurl the League Championship Flag for the 52nd time.

Mr Origami mentioned football providing good material for rants/posts and I'll finish this post by mentioning the MOPE's ( Most Offended People Ever) celtc fans who called Ofcom ( tv/radio watchdog) to complain that a Rangers fan had called Scott Brown ( a thick as mince celtc player)a "lego eater" on one of the football phone-in's.It really doesn't get much more pathetic than that.

Back soon...

Melting Snowmen

Ok,I'd been 3-4 tabling for a while, had a lot of late nights this week and I happen to have seen a man about a very nice ( herbal) dog recently. My more experienced poker playing readers may be able to spot the minor mistake I made with this hand...

I'm in the cut-off position early on in a $22 turbo sng and look down to two ( a Desmond obv) snowmen ( 88).I decide that with two callers very early on in the game, I don't have much fold equity if I raise, so I limp along hoping to hit a set or possibly take a stab at the pot if it's checked to me.

An eight falls first on an 8d 10h Ad flop.Bingo,I've hit a set! Someone's bound to have an Ace and pay me off.

It's checked round to me,I check too, and let the loose fishy button player bet just under half the pot.I decide to slow play a little as I reckon he's more likely to have a random Ace or have hit the ten than be on the flush draw. The turn comes a 2h and I check raise the mo-fo and his crappy Ace rag/K10 type hand just enough to keep him in the pot and let him hang himself.I can feel cleverness oozing oot ma pores!

The river is the 6h,I get him to commit the rest of his stack and await the virtual chips making their way across the table, destination: Acorn Stack.

I sit momentarily stunned as instead the chips cross the table to donkey boy and his A4 unsoooted.I take a closer look at the screen and one of my feckin' snowmen has melted into a nine.8 feckin 9 off soot.

Tired,wasted and not focussing...

The moral of the story is.... to decant to the kitchen, open the freezer door and pop in your laptop/pc whenever you get dealt Snowmen. ( or when 89 begins to look like 88,go to bed!)

After:

Thanks for the comments and emails on my last post.I spoke to the good lady on Sat evening and we agreed to leave things and chat again on Monday, giving us both more time to think things over.

I ended up watching "The Blues Brothers" and hitting the tables, coming back from being about 10 buy-ins down to break even over 23 games at $22 on Party.

Not much else to say today other than to wish Rubbish all the best in tonights Tournament of Champions freeroll . Thanks again to SirAlcan'thang for inlcuding the Brit Blogger game this time round. The freeroll is at 1am UK time but if you're still up pop along and wish Rubbish good luck from the rail! WSOP main event packages go to the top 2 players.( 44 registered to play)

Just time for a quick musical treat before I go.I'm not sure if I've posted about Rangers winning the Scottish league championship for the 52nd time.I just can't get this tune out of my head...
